Resurrecting an old thread (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=675760).
I found a local source (http://www.plastic-mart.com/class.php?item=1556) of 70 gallon vertical water storage tanks, FDA food grade plastic, 23" d x 44"h and one bulkhead (up to 2") installed. Even though the company is located in California, the tanks are manufactured here and can be picked up here to avoid both sales tax and shipping expense.
They have larger ones as well, but this is the largest diameter I can fit into my fish room.
Total cost for one is $130. Two are $250. I haven't called to see if there's a bigger discount available for a larger quantity.
For perspective, Indelco (http://www.indelco.com/p-15380-nor1.aspx) (suggested in the earlier thread) sells 105 gallon vertical tanks (23"d x 63"h) for $202.23 (plus Denver sales tax and freight). They will do 20% discount on qty 10.
At this point, I'm planning on buying two of the 70 gallon tanks. If anyone else is interested in them let me know and I'll make the inquiry regarding any additional discounts available.

Hi Gary,
I am interested in a pair of the 250 gallon tanks. If you could get a price it would be great. Thanks.

Hey Gary,
I'm back in town and catching up on the club stuff. Is this still pending? If so, I would be interested in playing.

Hi, all. Been out of town at a client all week. I get back tonight and will call Plastic-Mart tomorrow and ask what extra discount we might be able to wrangle. Kip, from their website it appears that the 250s may not be manufactured in Colorado. I'll find out what large sizes they do have for local pickup for you.

Talked to them today. They could give us some additional discount but it isn't a whole lot. For 5 of the 70s and 2 of the 200s:
70 gallons @ $120 each
200 gallons @ $225 each
They confirmed that they might be able to get the 250s here, but they aren't a regularly stocked item in Denver. It would be a couple of weeks and additional freight. I didn't ask specifically about the 300s (yikes!) but it appears that those are on the stocked list.
The biggest challenge we'll face is figuring out when we can all meet there for pickup of a combined order. The lot is in Commerce City, actually pretty central to our club distribution, but they are only open M-F, 8 to 5. I can probably pick up extra 70s as long as I have money in advance. (Kip, I'll never be able to load two of the big boys up! But you probably wouldn't want to drive all the way to Highlands Ranch to get them from me anyway.)
The other decision is what size bulkhead you want installed at the bottom. They'll do anything up to 2". (I'm going with 1" for easy plumbing.) They can add additional bulkheads for an $15 apiece.
Okay, so who's in?

Hi Gary,
You can count me in. I will take one 70gal with one 1" bulkhead. I can probably pick one up next week but I will be out of town the following week. So it basically matters when everyone decides to go pick it up.
Thanks,
Michael

Actually, I want to have one extra bulk head. So I will take one 70gal with 2 1" bulkheads.
Thanks,

Hey Gary,
I'm interested in one 70 with a 1" bulkhead. Do you have a Paypal account? If so, PM me with the info and I'll send the funds your way. I may or may not be able to meet at the distributor depending on my travel schedule (I'm sure you understand).

I'm in for a 70 gallon gallon w/ a 1" bulkhead, just let me know when you need the money (paypal) and where I can pick it up. :) I'll be up to the Denver area on Saturday morning if you can have them by then...

Gary, I am back to one 1" bulkhead. Sorry for changing my mind again.

Michael, no problem on the bulkheads. I think it will be very easy to add a second one later (especially if it is above the water line for return from a circulating pump).
Rob, Eric, Michael--I'll send you PMs as soon as I have a confirmed count and final confirmation of price. Eric, I don't think we'll get this pulled together this week...maybe next. I can hold it in my garage awhile, though.
Rob, there's no reason for you to go out there. I can easily get it back to HR for you.
Kip and adams0816--sending PMs to see if you're still interested.

Gary,
I will be out of town from Monday to Thursday afternoon of next week. So if you go to pick up then I can't. Could you hold it for me or if we go to pick it up on Thursday or Friday I can pick it up then.
Maybe they could hold it for me until then and then I can pick it up on Thursday or Friday? Do we have to pick up the containers all at the same time? Can I pay them over the phone via a credit card?
Thanks,
Michael

Hey, I'm gonna hold out. I went to Jax farm and supply and thier prices were way cheaper. Anyone close to Ft. Collins might want to check it out.
Here are some of the prices (sorry, I only checked out the larger ones):

Dark anlger,
Where is Jax farm and supply in FC and are the containers USDA or FDA approved? Also are they "see through" in any manner.

Hey John,
I guess it's Jax Farm and Ranch, and it's on College or 287. You just take college thru town and its on your right. It's the second jax. The first one is your outdoor/camping store. Also, I just called them and they couldn't find if they were usda or fda approved or not, but I know people who have used them and they work just fine. You can see thru them. They are the clouded white, but you can definitly see the water level. Here are the prices of what they have in stock now.
Vertical:
65 gallon........$89.00
300 gallon......$225.00
Horizontal:
125 gallon......$189.00
160 gallon......$230.00

Gary, were you still planning on a buy? I can drive to Denver, but I don't really want to go all the way to F.C. Let me know if you're still planning on buying the originals. Anyone in Denver area willing to pick up an extra 65 V? Do these come with a bulk head in the bottom as well?

I'm looking at next Friday if that will work for others. I can pick up additional one, Eric, and get it back to Highlands Ranch to save you a few miles.

Okay, an update. (Sorry everyone for being so slow on this but being out of town so much is cramping my style.)
I'm getting a slightly different story from Plastic-Mart now...now the guy I just talked to said that we would have to pay tax if we pick them up locally. (I still don't know about that since they only have operations in CA. Maybe I'll get somebody different on the next call...)
Anyway, here's what he's telling me now:
70 gallon, vertical tank, 23"d x 44" h, FDA approved, white: $120
200 gallon, vertical tank, 34"d x 57"h, FDA approved, white: $230
-- each with one installed bulkhead, up to 2"
Tax in commerce city is 8.3%.
So, if tax is required to buy through Plastic-Mart, I called the manufacturer directly. They will sell the 70s at $119.45 and the 200 at $195.05. (Plus the tax).
This doesn't save anything on the 70s but provides a significant savings on the 200. (If I could fit a 200 through the door of my fish room, I think that's the way I'd go.
Included in that price they is one bulkhead fitting, but they will charge an additional $12 to install.
I'll PM or email everyone who was interested before...if anybody wants to join in, please send me a PM.
As stated before, I think I will be able to pick up any additional 70s for folks down south and get them back to HR. I don't think I'll be able to load up the 200 though.
Thanks all...looking forward to getting this done.

Gary do you know anything about the Jax Farm and Ranch 65G verticals DarkAngler was mentioning? 30 bucks is quite a bit for only 10 gallons more...
artful-dodger
04/13/2006, 08:39 PM
No argument...I have no vested interest in the Commerce City connection.
The only question is what they're made of. A call to them could get the manufacturer and model number. A little bit more research could find out what the actual plastic is and whether it has an FDA food-storage rating.
calvin415
04/13/2006, 08:50 PM
darkangler do you know any other info on the 65g Vert?
darkangler
04/13/2006, 11:27 PM
Don't know exactly what type of plastic they use, but like I said, I know many people who use them. Also, I don't really think food grade is necessary for holding vats. I, along with everyone I know has always used garbage buckets and has never had a problem.

The 65's do have a bulk head also. They guy I talked to just wasn't sure if they were approved or not. They quite possibly could be. Then on the other hand, I'm really not that concerned. They are made of plastic, they hold water, and I can transport water. That's all I really need.

On my way back from Denver I stopped by JAX to check out these tanks. I have not researched the manufacturer but thought I would post pics. By the way these tanks are graduated. Food for thought....

They also had the 65g in a horizontal configuration for $10 more plus they had 40g verticals and 35g horizontals. If I can find some time I'll find a phone number and see what the tanks are made of.

Here is a link to the MFG site which indicates they are made from food grade material. A phone call still might be in order to verify the model number and material.

Also I drive to Denver from Cheyenne often and could throw several of these in the back if you guys didn't want to make the trip to northern Fort Collins/LaPorte.

That will work for me... Now just getting to Denver when you're there... :) I'll be up to the Northern Colorado meeting in May so I might just wait until then and pick it up myself. Thanks for the info, do you happen to have the address of Jax? I've never been to Ft Collins so I don't want to get lost... :D

Eric,
Essentially you take College (287) all the way through town and its on your right hand side after College (287) turns to the west, say three miles from the turn. HTH.

Hi,
We have an 120 gallon upright cylindrical PE tank we have just put up for sale - we bought it new. It's had salt water in it for 4 years now.
We paid $200 for it, we're asking $135 for it. We are negotiable. If you are interested, we are in Fort Collins, SE side. PM us or call.
Thanks,
