There is no local supplier of Southdown. You may get lucky and find someone who has some to sell but it's becoming VERY scarce.

Last I heard, the closest place to buy some was in Virginia.

You might try Gateway Aquatics or the Reef Stop and see if they carry something comparable.

Southdown is sold in Home Depot, under another name. Read about a thread in NJ fourm.

Carribsea oolitic sand is the same. I know GWA has a number of bags it ends up about $1 a lb but call first and check. I think most the LFS's have it. Maybe even petsmart and print the online price and take it with you if you go there.

Hey stlsaltwater, if he doesn't take all of the southdown, I'll take whatever is left of it.

I contacted the supplier of Southdown a couple of months ago, possibly 3. They stated that they lost their supplier of sand in the Carib. and were looking for someone else to do it.

That is why Southdown has become so hard to find.

$1/lb is crazy! HD sells their bags for like $4.00/40 lb bag and it's the same thing! No wonder people are turning to BB tanks.

I can understand the mark-up on perishable/live items, but on sand???

edit...

HD does have white sand as well as the regular play sand. Toy's R Us does too but its not made from aragonite.
