Macro with Canon DRebel

Hi all....

What is the best way and then the most cost effective way to start using my Digital Rebel for Macro photography of my tank? Any specific recommendations for lenses or filters?

Canon's 100mm macro is the most "Bang for your buck." There's also the 60mm macro, but I have been pretty unimpressed with that lens, having used both. I haven't, however, used the 180mm macro. While it's supposed to take the most phenomenal shots, it also comes at a phenomenally high price.

These are just Canon's macro lenses. I'm a Canon snob, I admit. Sigma and Tamron also make macro lenses, but I've never bothered to consider them. Canon's glass has an awesome reputation for a reason.

I just purchaced the 60 mm lense and it is not very good. I will be returning it this weekend.

an 18-200 lens is not a true macro lens. it has a 1:3.7 magnafacation ratio which is terrible - even if you are using an adaptor. Look at the lack of sharpness in your pictures.

If you want to do macro photography, you need a 1:1 lens. if you have a canon body, there is nothing better than the Canon 100mm lens. worth every penny. some of the best macros i have ever seen have come out of that lens.
