Save the Puffer 2006
While visiting the Animals and Things on Rt 1 and 9 I saw a 16 inch Porcupine Puffer. I ask for his life we all write emails to the Camden Adventure Aquarium to have them purchase the animal. He has begun to rip up the skin on his head because the tank is too small.
I ask all of you for all the animals that we have in our tank lets try and get this one in better hands..... Its no longer a cute little litter puffer we all want to have in our tanks. Its a full grown animal that is going to end up in someones garage cause they are going to try and put his in 55 gallon tank...
Lets not only focus on the animals we have propageted or captive bred. This animal was likely yanked from a reef and is now living in subpar condtions. Im am serious about this.
Here is the email address Save The Puffer (http://www.adventureaquarium.com/index.cfm?sectionID=52,0,0,0)
How much was the puffer? Did Animals and Things have anything to say about this?
I was just wondering how responsible they are..... I can't imagine anyone with a small tank wouold even consider putting such a large fish in a small tank..... What makes you think this will happen?
Thanks.....:D

I'm not surprised Animals and Things would keep a fish in a tank that is too small.
I remember them having 2 Arrowanas that were about 3 feet long in a tank that was 4 feet long.
That is probably the worst pet store in the state.
They will sell it to anyone that would walk in, but that doesn't mean someone who has the the proper sized tank wouldn't buy him. There is still hope for that.
How much are they asking for the Puffer?

Why don't we make a collection, buy the fish, and donate it to the Aquarium.
25 guys at 10 a piece is not bad.
Or we can sell some frags. I have a hammer and a zoanthid frag that I can donate for the good cause.
The only problem that I see is that we are going to buy the fish and then the store is going to have a small tank available to stick in another huge fish.

I agree... whats the sense of buying the fish since another one will be in it's place a day after this one is gone.....
If no-one buys the fish then he may get the message not to stock up on livestock that no-one wants.....
Supply and demand.......
Saving one fish is truely a noble cause..... but the reality here is there is not much you can do about this.... especially since no laws are being broken.....
I would suggest you stop going into this store..... If enough people take this position he will get the message.....:D

Yup. Buy it and they'll just be rewarded for trying to sell the fish in the first place.

The fish was brought in by mistake... The guy at the store realizes this and they said they might be donating it... IM trying to get the NJ Adventure aquarium to grab it...... Thats why i asked you guys help me and write emails... Its no longer about the store guys its about the animal...
This is the response to an email I sent the Aquarium. Marc was kind enough to read the email and take the time to write me back. Here's what can be done.
"Hi Joe,
I was recently made aware of this animal and I will give you the same advice that I gave them. You can either speak with the ownership of this store and let them know that we may be able to help them with this fish, or you can contact the local NJ fish and wildlife office in your area if you think this animal is not being properly cared for and it is in eminent danger. If they get enough complaints by local citizens they may check into the situation. If it is in fact in dire need, they will not hesitate to seize the animal. I have no authority to suggest seizure of this or any animal. We will help if we are asked by either the owner or fish and wildlife.
Regards,
Marc kind

He may change his tune with a visit from the NJ Fish and Wildlife Office..... Especially since he has a Pet Store License......
Ya never know... but I think it's worth a try.....:D

After saying that I say let him keep it. Let him take a loss and tell everyone you know not to go there. It would be much better if he goes out of business.
