What if Anthony Calfo is really an evil man with an evil plan?
Maybe he has it out for all anemones and is just getting us to massacre ours. Maybe?
:D

its incorrectly ID on the site its not Entacmaea (sp) from my understanding that would make it some kind of bta but its a herectis malu from what i have been seeing.

The faint rings and shorter tentacles are indicative of the H. malu ID rather than crispa. As I said, a friend had this same purchase from the store for months and it tripled in size while maintaining the color so I think I just got a really nice yellow/red foot color morph of this non-hosting anemone species, and got lucky with my saddlebacks taking to it as well.
Thanks for the feedback, I've resolved my issue and will indeed cut this ***** up in a few weeks.

keep an eye on it and make sure the clowns don't stress it and kill it, if is not a hosting anemone and they seem to be settling a lot on it.
If you have pieces available after cutting..please pm me.

I heard the sound of an anemone cowering in fear and thought I should come running with a scalpel in hand ;)

Hah! I knew it!
As a club, I think we are going to flood the market with several species soon. Of course, the idea of a tank swaddled in astroturf, crowded with clones, sitting next to the tv is going over like a lead baloon.
She does like the idea of a greenhouse though. I think I mentioned she's an avid gardener, and the idea of starting tomatoes early makes her happy. (and she's psyched that I may actually be able to generate electricity money from this "hobby")
Thanks again for all the tips, and the enthusiasm. You're a blast! I need some of the silver xenia you mentioned, coming this way anytime soon? Maybe come up to trash Warren and Chris's Carpet in a month or two. Maybe we could make a presentation of it during a club meeting? I'll buy gas and dinner/hotel etc.. Pm me if you'd like to discuss further.

I dont think we will ever flood the market but we can definitely make some stuff more readily available to people in the hobby. LIRA members will be ablke to get there hands on some of the more sought after stuff. Im totally psyched to do this both from an ethical standpoint and also a financial one. It would be nice to defray the cost of running the tanks.

I hope you're right about there being some demand Chris. All I can imagine is having a tank filled with these critters that noone wants, and that I am ethically bound to care for.

No matter what there will always be a market--even if its store credit and a LFS. Its a win win situation i do believe and just because there may not be a market here for something doesnt mean there isnt one somewhere else in the US. Gotta think of it that way :)

screw it stop encouraging me.. im going to cut this babe in a day or two.

slice and dice baby!
I do agree with jnfallon on the concept of being bound ethically to care for something that may not be reef safe or go with the community ine is trying to keep. This may be another reason why people have multiple fish tanks!

Blood? You sure its not dyed?
Corpus Callosum
03/16/2006, 01:21 PM
well it looked like blood because her foot was red but it was all over the place and water from the internals splashed in my face hardcore.

also my LFS just said they would buy these guys from me for 5 bucks a piece (while they sell them for 10-20 usually).

03/16/2006, 01:35 PM
oh and the water that splashed / drained from the internets was clear NOT red. just the fleshy stuff was red and stained red.

When i cut my RBTAs the only thing that came out was water and nothing else. Maybe im misunderstanding you?

well like.. nothing came out other than water.. but the foot was a fleshy red color so it stained my towel lol.. i sort of got hungry like a vampire also but.. um nevermind..
cb747
03/16/2006, 08:10 PM
Nope dont want to know. The stain on the towel does make me wonder if it might be dyed. I cut mine on a styro box cover and there was nothing of any color of anything when i was finished and i did 3 in a row.
Corpus Callosum
03/16/2006, 08:36 PM
upon careful inspection the stain was actually pieces of flesh left on the towel.. interesting observation though you may be right, we'll see as it recovers.
I also got a 8" electric green carpet anemone today for 50 bucks.. I'm not going to keep it just cut it up once this malu recovers. chris would you want this 8" anemone for a frag of your red one? LOL

03/16/2006, 08:54 PM
LOL And you were the one that told Ray to write fool on the tank. Atleast i think it was you. I already bought and sliced a green carpet. The results so far look promising. Im one step ahead of you :)
Corpus Callosum
03/16/2006, 09:23 PM
yes it was me i asked him if i could borrow a market because I was going to write 'sold to a fool' below the red anemone label.
grats chris.. post some pics from the green carpet.
my sun anemone has recovered excellently already.
put me in line for red carpet frags (have i said this already? LOL)

03/16/2006, 09:55 PM
Hah, you guys are OUT OF CONTROL!!!
Are the carpets able to be handled bare-handed? How is the sting? Noticable?
Chris, I want a pice too. ;)

carpet stings are reportedly among the worst stings from anemones, but i personally dont give a crap about risks (near death risk? bah sign me up!) so I usually handle them from the base rather than the top.
only time you may need to deal with the tentacles is when cutting them which you could use latex gloves.

Ive had no problems previously and currently with carpets. One day itll bite me in the butt but i never use gloves which i know i should. Ill post pics after i know its a sucess. :)
