i am looking for two cheap skimmers for 50 gallon tanks. they don't need to be the best , they just need to be the best for my money spent. i am unfamiliar with most of the cheaper brands maybe some of you could chime in and help me : )

EDIT i should say that id like to spend less than $100 if possible

Are you looking to spend $100 on the skimmer and pump or just the skimmer? I am running the following and its working great. 1/2 colection cup of dark, dark nasty smelling skimmate every 3 days.
Odyssea PS75 $40
Rio 1100 with DIY RVT $40
Your shipping cost may raise it a couple bucks depending on where you live etc......

The pump comes with a bunch of plumbing parts. I drill two small holes into the intake (whatever part you use) one will be air intake. Then I use the output with the Venturi riser on it and run an airline from there back to the second drilled hole on the intake. Hope that makes sense? Take a look at the RIO RVT pumps at any of the online vendors and I think it is pretty easy to figure out.

ASM is a good value skimmer. But its price had gone up $40-60. ReefGeek is still selling at the old price. So hurry if you want an ASM.

holy crap, thank you mdt178. you just saved me $40. just ordered my ASM G2 from reefgeek today. it definately is at least $270 every where else now.

oh and what about the ASM mini skimmer. I'm not sure how many gallons they're rated too, but I heard they were pretty good and around $100.

i know my expectations shouldn't be very high for $100 but it seems people really don't like the pump on these.

anyone had any luck with the $80 coral life one ?

bak pak's blow, I don't know anything about ASM. Turboflotors kickass and you can get the them under $150. I think Aquatic Technologies sells them pretty cheap

I recently purchased the odyssea ps75 w/ pump for $44 w/ shipping for my 55 gallon tank. The very 1st day I hooked it up it was pulling some light green colored skimmate. Now I have had it for about 4 days and it has been pulling more and darker skimmate. Not too bad for only $44 dollars.

You can get the cheapest Euro-reef BLEM for @ 150 which includes pump. I dont think you could even remotely beat this deal...
