I have three clams in my 180. One of them a small squamosa is growing another opening near it's mouth. Two holes, one the mouth and the new one. I don't if this is good or bad, new to clams still. Can anyone help me out? What does this mean, is it growing or dieing off? It's extension is phenomenal and very blue/purple. What do you think? Your comments are appreciated.

its not uncommon for a clam to form a second in-current or ex-current syphon if its been damaged, but its also hard to say with any certainty with out a pis. can you post one?

I am not sure what causes the opening, stress? preditors? But when I first got my 4" squamosa I'd have little holes appearing near the syphons here and there one at a time for weeks. And then it just went away. It healed it self and has since then grew another inch.

I've seen a perfectly healthy specimen off Bali that had three exhalent siphons. Didn't seem to be affecting it at all (it was big and was showing shell growth).
