View Full Version : Why would my skimmer stop producing?

Yesterday, I added two MJ1200's to my tank to replace two under-performing Powersweeps. Since I made the switch, I've had absolutely zero skimmate production from my Remora.

Would increased flow affect the skimmer, or could things such as factory oils maybe present on the PH's halt skimmate production for a day or two? I've never had the skimmer just stop making skimmate, so this is weird.

Your hands being in the tank for any extended amount of time will do this. My old ReefDevil would stop production for 3-4 hours after my hand were in it.

I thought about that, but before yesterday my Remora would stop for only around ten minutes after my hands were in the tank. It's now been almost 20 hours without any skimmate, so something's up.

I would give it a bit more time. There may have been some oils on or within the new power heads. I cleaned half of my sump yesterday, and removed the sand bottom from my fuge, and my skimmer stopped producing for about 12 hours.

new plastic of almost any type in my tanks tend to suppress the skimming,
