How can a Durso overflow can suddenly stop working?

hey guys, i have the other thread where i was asking opinions on how to make it quiet so i was making some mods in my sump to get rid of bubbles, i was unable to so i went back to the setup i have been running for a week and now the overflow will not function

simply it fails to take the air in the pipe and chokes, if i would let it run it would overflow my tank....

this is the setup that was working fine for the past week and now it doesnt work? i mean nothing changed, same pump, same pipes, everything...

Have you checked to see if its clogged? Snails are notorious for getting down in there

how do i get it out and how to prevent it from happeneing in the fuuture?
