LPS sweepers - agression only, or sign of hunger?

My LPS (wall hammer, bubble, frogspawn, torch, candycane) are generally peaceful with their neighbors, but I've noticed that if I go more than a few days between feedings some of them put out more sweepers. Are they just telling me they're hungry, or is this a coincidence?
