Planning to setup 2 210g AGA back to back. pick one up already and waiting for the other to come this week. just to many tanks setup around the house and needed to run one system only.i think total setup should be around 600g tank/sump now i was wandering how i should run this set up.
-one tank is for reef only (72x24x30)
-other tank would be fish with live rock (72x24x30)
- see though both tank with 4 overflow(2 on each tank)
- planning to put the two tank back to back and share a 200g sump.
- have a close loop for 4 loc line that comes with the tank
-another pump for 1" seaswirl for each tank
? should i go bare bottom on both tank
? what lighting should i go with
? how should i plumb the system
? is it a good idea to try this setup

thanks ahead for any info.

no wortwhile advice to offer (setting up a 240 all on it's lonesome is giving me enough headaches), but this sounds interesting enough that i'd like to follow along w/ your progress....keep us posted.

that said, just because i have no wortwhile advice doesn't mean i have no advice at all ;^)

barebottom - there just isn't a straight answer. benifits to either way, disadvantages to either way. i'd let your own asthetical preference and the livestock you intend to put in the tank make that call for ya.

lights...are you considering 3 per tank, or an 'across the middle' approach trying to light both tanks w/ one 'row'? again, i'm far from sure what the hell i'm doing in a lotta stuff, but 6x400w seems like a mighty high electric bill when the reef side of the set up is likely all that would get much benifit from it, tho.

.

i would use that as my guide lines

what you decide to keep will be the bigest factor

I just want to follow this. Is it going to be 3-sides viewable or in-wall? Are the tanks clear enough to see through them? That's a lot of glass to look through?

So you will have big predatory fish on one side and small reef fish on the other always taunting behind the glass? :)

I would imagine you would approach this equipment-wise as if you were setting up two separate tanks as they have different needs. I am eager to see how it works out.

for the fish with live rock, i'm planning to transfer all my large size tangs and angelfish, and for the reef tank ...mostly lps/softies and not much sps. so far i was think of using 3 400w on my reef tank and T5's on the FWLR.
it's will be 4 side viewable....i'm not so much worry about the glass being clear to see though the other tank. i went with the two 210g instead of one tank(6x2x4) cause of cost. different in price was almost $3500 different. also i always wanted a tank just for my large fish and it would be right next to each other on one system.

Sounds like it would be an awesome room. Will the overflows be in the center?

the overflow would be in the middle..........there is a total of 4 overflow, 2 on each tanks
