I guess I should post this here as well, can't wait to get it!

----

Here is the pic Finsreef sent me last week. Now I wanna see pix with bubbles in it. :D It is the A200-1x1260 cut a few inches shorter. It was between this, the Deltec 701, or BK200 Internal - but I prefer the acrylic neck over the black ABS neck so the Deltec was out and the BK does draw a little more air - but was a LOT more expensive.

Skimmer is suppose to be 30" tall, how many inches did you trim off and was it on the body? Did you get the pump lowered as well?

Deltecrules - thanks!

UCanDoIt - Some was cut off the body, some off the cup. I got measurements from the standard model, and the Deltec 701 and made my decision from there. I also used to own the 2x1260 model so had some experience with the diameter. In the end I left it up to H&S since I know they make a lot of custom skimmers - for them to do what's best. The pump is as low as H&S deemed structurally sound.

Finsreef fired it up and it is skimming some NAAASTY stuff in 24 hours. I can't get the pix to upload, I'll try later. The foam line stays between the two bands, so its lower but not so low that I'll get microbubbles. Currently I'm fighting a bad microbubble problem and do NOT want to deal with filter socks again.

Chad - sent you a PM.

Looks great Fliger! Are you able to run the ehiem wide open?

Lots of luck with it, i think these skimmers are the best bang for the buck....ps it could have been delivered like newspapers ( when they pitch them on the side of the road and the bundle slides acorss curb and hits the lamp post ) this things is made bullet proof.....

Yes the Eheim can be run wide open. I had it adjusted to 950+lph.

Exo,
At time I feel that is the way UPS treats stuff anyway:), but we have had very, very little damage done by shipping.

Would it be possible to get the dimensions of this custom skimmer ?

My stand is ~27" high, would it be possible to fit it underneath ?

Thats great. Is there much turbulence in the neck? Thanks Brian.

Could we see some photos of this running? I'm definitely interested in ordering one through my local dealer if this looks like a winner. H&S should have this as a standard model for the USA market as most of the tank stand in USA is only 30" tall with inside height a few inches shorter. Fliger, thanks for starting this thread!

This is a question for FinsReef, how does this custom A200 compare to the insump model 200?

Ginzo

I'm very interrested in this question also !

Since my tank stand will only permit a skimmer around 27" tall.

The total dimensions of the skimmer are as follows:
Skimmer body is 17" tall, and the collection cup is 8" for a total of 25".

As far as the difference between a custom short version and the standard internal, there is pluses for each. Personally unless I had an application that had to have an external skimmer, I would just go with the 200-1260. It is cheaper, already in-stock, and is a great performer. The plus about the A200 is that you have more user control and a longer contact time. In most set-ups, you will not notice the difference.

You could not go wrong with either skimmer. I run both a 200-1260 and an A200-1260.

As far as the A200-1260 at 25", I do not think it will make a production model, as the Internal will fit the shorter stands, and does a great job.

But at last, if a customer requests a custom skimmer, then it can be done.

I was seriously considering a BK200, but Fliger taught me out of it. I couldn't go bigger on the BK as the footprint won't fit within my sump. Brian, thanks for the response on the custom short A200 & 200, I just ordered my 200-1260 tonight from my local dealer. Looking forward to setting it up. I just sold my A150, so will be skimmerless for a few days. Hopefully, you can ship out quickly!

A few folks have asked me how much extra it was, I think it was $50. I ordered some other stuff and backed out those things and it looks like $50, Brian can correct me if wrong. My "mod" was simple though, just cut it shorter so I dunno if that's the same fee for all mods.

UCanDoIt (is that a Happy Gilmore quote?) - I love BK. Probably the best NW made. I just don't see the value unless you get into bigger skimmers. The BK200 is barely more air than any single Eheim skimmer, but more than double the cost. But if you need DEAD silence, and thats worth the money for you, than the skimmer is worth it for you. As I mentioned, it came down to those 2 skimmer, although if I went BK, I would have just got the 250 that I could use if I ever got a different tank.

My aquarium tech convince me to go with the A200 instead, so my order was changed to the Eheim model A200 external. Thanks again for your input.

Custom prices depends on how much "custom" has to be done :) The simple Mods are $50. If anyone is interested in a Custom skimmer, just lmk and I will get a quote for the custom fee.
Thanks,
Brian

Oooh baby, it is in and it is BEAUTIFUL. There are a few more connection parts that Finsreef included to differing set-ups. That was very cool.

The materials on the skimmer as all incredible. Not that it makes it skim any better, but I do believe the acrylic is higher quality than some competitors, from the collection cup to the heavy lid on top. The welds are fantastic.

I'll try to get some pix next week. This week is totally jammed.

I also picked up some Zeovit AAHC and CV, do these need to be kept in the fridge?

FinsReef
03/29/2006, 04:35 PM
The CV needs to be refrigerated, but the AAHC does not. You need to stop working so hard, so you can play more.

I got a chance to hook this baby up. I got ~1,000LPH outta the pump. Its the same meter that has measured several Eheims on both H&S and Deltecs. Really impressive. I didn't run it for a long time, just hooked it up to a curing tank. You can not believe the construction quality, I just took down a AP702 and the materials are superior all the way around. Not bashing, I love Deltec and have several products, and strength won't make it skim any better ... but its just so much more solid.

Anyhoo ... still a few weeks til I get it hooked up permanently.
