do VHO bulbs need reflectors or does just simply mounting them into the canopy work fine?

i have vho bulbs that have built in reflectors. imo, reflectors aren't needed.

If you get the ones with Built in reflector they will work great, but studies have shown, that although you get hte ones with the built in reflectors you can get better light ouput if you do use a reflector.

If it is your sole lighting then yes, reflectors would benefit. If this is just actinics I wouldn't bother. Like was said before, my VHO actinics have built in reflectors.

IME painting the inside of your canopy gloss whit helps a lot with VHO's.

When I had VHOs I found that reflectors made a huge difference even if the bulb had built in reflectors.

I use reflectors...the extra light going into the tank can only help.

I started by running 6x110w VHO's over my 110. I started without and later switched into having reflectors and I thought it made a major difference.

I currently run 2x110Wx Acts next to my MH's and they are under reflectors. I don't know that it makes as much difference with just those two bulbs, but I think every little bit helps.

I've also always ran VHO's with internal reflectors.
