Finally a good saltwater store in south orlando. I went by the old pet store by cosco on south OBT and they went out of business, but there is a new sw only store opening in it's place. They are not open yet but they let me in and the owner was real nice. he showed me around and they have a beautiful show room with lots of room for fish and corals. They started out as a local service company and are expanding to retail. They showed me some pictures of a 6000 gallon cylinder shark tank they just installed in some surf shop. It was awsome. I don't know where these guys came from but they are going to rock. I look forward to seeing them open the 1st of april.

This is funny that im reading this article. I was just talking to my brother in law lastnight about this store. We used to buy stuff from the past 2 owners. I hope the new guy can keep his stock up with the fishes and corals and frozen foods. I will make sure to make it down there on the 1st for there opening. I hope they make this place nice, cause the trip to Aloma to that salt water store is a long 1.

I checked the store out on Sat. this weekend. It looks like its going to be really nice. I wish it was a little closer to me but I think it will be worth the drive. Hit me up when you have the store more stocked, or when the 500 gal shark tank is up. Nice store.

Its a saltwater shop on Mcleod Rd. Its a business where they go to hotels, restraunts, homes and install tanks and maintain them. They can build stands, customize tanks, sell used ones. Thats their main business. However, they do sell some pretty good fish at their store.:D

Just to chime in Reefs and Rainforests is the place to go. I have never dealt with someone with so much respect and dignity in the aquarium hobby before, Ernie the owner is one heck of a guy and will try to make a situation work. This is not a place that is after your money but in fact a place where they want the best for your livestock and want everything to thrive. The shop has a real florida keys type of feel to it, i was not expecting the shop to be so nice and it will only get better in due time. So be sure to go check out this great place and the great prices they have to offer, you will not be disapointed. So this is my new favorite lfs in the area.

55semireef
06/06/2006, 10:51 PM
Yup, I am now an employee there. Actually, the shop makes its business by maintaining tanks, installing them and delivering fish. Thats the foundation of its business but they do sell SW fish too.

Do you guys know something I don't? About 2 weeks ago, I stopped by R & R and the door was locked and no one inside. I called several times but got nothing but the answering machine. I think I stopped by on a Thursday afternoon around 1 pm.

Anyone know their hours?

55semireef
06/06/2006, 11:20 PM
Yes I work there.

You probably got unlucky. If you read my post above, our main job is house calls and to maintain tanks. That means were not at the shop. About two weeks ago, we only had 4 guys but now that I am hired there it makes it 5 so we will usually have a guy at the shop.

Usually its best to call ahead of time so you don't waste gas.

What everyone's favorite store for inverts? I haven't seemed to have found a LSF in the Orlando area yet that seems to keep a diverse stock. I like variety in my clean up crew. :)

I agree. I have not found any good areas for inverts. Although, there is a good place called aquaholics thats pretty goood I heard.

Yes aquaholics is the place to go for your inverts, this place has an amazing selection and offer unbeatable prices. I purchased my bluecarpet there which was in excellent shape and everything else there is in excellent shape including fish. They have seperate filtration setups on each of there tanks which cuts back on parasites being spread and the overall health of the fish imo. They have the best prices in town just wish they were a little closer to me for if they were i would be there everyday, no joke. But that is why i go to other places that are much closer. This is the website for the store, dont know if i am aloud to post it but i will anyways, just let me know if i am not aloud and i will remove the link. Here it is www.aqua-holics.com

Linda was not in when I stopped by, but their invert and fish (both SW & FW) selection is very good in my opinion. Luckily I work in south Orlando so it's not too far for me to stop by after work. I don't know what other people have said about this place, but I strongly recommend them.

Btw, I also stopped by Exotic Marine yesterday also and I have not been impressed with them at all. I have stopped by many times over the past 2 months and every time I go, there are at least 3 or more dead or dying fish.

Yesterday there were at least 5 dead or dying. I also brought a fish by to give to them since it was picking at my corals. They just netted him from my bucket and plopped him in a tank...no acclimation whatsoever. Being very fond of my fish, I felt terrible subjecting him to such treatment.

Needless to say, I am not impressed and WILL NOT buy any livestock from them. Their dry goods & frozen food are the only thing that would make me go back, but even those I can get at Aqua-Holics.

Aqua-Holics gets five stars, Exotic Marine gets one IMO

I think the corals at Exotic Marine are in divided tanks sharing water.

Their freshwater tanks are all separate, and the saltwater are divided sharing water.

I'm pretty sure Aqua-Holics had all divided. They do have a nice single coral tank containing a lot of awesome frags. All of their display tanks are AMAZING. Other corals/HUGE anemones are divided among tanks w/ fish, as well as live rock.

Close enough.

Aqua-Holics
1166 E. Donegan Ave, Kissimmee

I think there's a map at their website which bluecarpet provided.

From the turnpike, I took exit 255 to get to Exotic Marine, and exit 249 for Aqua-Holics.

I went by Exotic Marine today and was very disappointed. I saw nothing but 2 large tanks right when you walk through the door, one had a nice Tang and the other a couple large eels. Was there another room to the place or what because I saw no fish or corals for sale. Apparently I missed all that, the owner definitely didn't offer any info on what was there.

55semireef
06/10/2006, 06:57 PM
hmmm.maybe they are moving?

lilprincess

There is another room at Exotic Marine towards the back to the left, but you'd probably be disappointed even if you did go back there (IMO).

I guess aquaholics is the place huh?

I want to get some xenia soon so I will be there. Today I got a Coral Banded Shrimp at Reefs And Rainforests where I work. My Niger Trigger hasn't bothered it yet and is not interested. Got it for a farily good price but R & R still hasn't had its grand opening yet so its not as good as aquaholics in the meantime but in years it will be new competition for them I bet.

06/13/2006, 05:27 PM
Went to Aqua-holics this afternoon after school and boy did they have some stuff in, frogspawns, a few hammers, clams, toadstools, etc. But to bad i only went there for food and a look around, plus i needed some more calcium additives and the prices they had beat ebay believe it or not, so if people out there are looking for some corals get there soon b/c they sell out quick. They had three juvi clown triggers in and were selling them for 39 bucks by the time i left there was only one. They also had a carpet anemone in that looked in excellent shape.
