i got a pygmy angel on saturday and it has hid till today in the rock work, but today when i woke up it was resting on the bottom of the tank, it was acting disoriented and falling on its side and then swimming upright again and again is this normal for angels or is it dieing?

Doesn't sound normal..... What kind of angel is it? Some are caught using cyanide.

Unfortunatly I don't think you are going to save it. How long was it at your LFS? Was it acting normal before the purchase? I know some pygmys can only be caught using the cyanide method. I think your fish is a victim of this problem. Hope he bounces back, but I wouldn't have high hopes for his recovery. Sorry.

It up to you. Are there any other fish, inverts, crabs in the tank that may start to pick at him? It sucks to lose a new addition so quickly.

Out of curiosity, what is your salinity. LFS ususally keep the salinity low to fight ich, usually around 1.018-1.020. My tank is at 1.023, ideal is between 1.021-1.025.

1.026 do you think that could have killed him

could be shock from salinity diff. Either way just take him out before he ends up in the rocks where its impossible for you to get. Or before he starts to pollute your tank.

im so sorry, why do LFS buy fish that have bean poisend! its such a waiste of life.... best bet is to leave him and turn the lights out cus he is mostlickly stressed... only way i think that you can help him/her is to move him to his own tank and provide it with a piece of rock to hide behind a wait till it happens...
then go the LFS tell them that your are appalled and discusted.... isnt that illegal now because it shure should be.... not to self: find a cure, thats what my PHD should be about....

When I buy livestock, I always check the water they are in with a refractometer so I know exactly what the specific gravity is. A previous poster indicated that some stores will keep their specific gravity purposefully low in order to prevent ich and other parasites from gaining a foothold, and this is indeed the experience I've had. One LFS keeps their S.G. at 1.024 and another keeps theirs at 1.019. That is a huge difference.

If the fish was indeed caught with cyanide, there is likely nothing you can do. Well....there is something. Boycott the stores that purchase cyanide-caught fish.

I bought two dwarf angels for two tanks a while back and they both got ich right within a couple of days. Watch him closely because one starting tipping over on its side like you mentioned before it died. If you see signs of disease pull him out so your others dont get sick.

One LFS here keeps the sg down to 1.014

Zach is right, if he has parasites they can disease the other fish

Some people euthanize by fish in baggie under car tire - Some put fish in cup with very small amount of tank water (so it doesn't take long to freeze) & place in freezer

Sorry about your fish :(
