I picked up a new 46BF a few weeks ago, I have added my sand to it, ( 2-20lb bags live sand and 1-40lb bag of agramax ) but it's still cloudy as ever 3-weeks later. I've never had a tank stay this cloudy this long. Anyone have any ideas or tricks to get the cloudiness gone?

Double check your water parameters to make sure it isn't chemical. If it's physical debris, I would suggest running canister filters, HOB filters, In tank filters, etc to polish the water. Make sure you rinse out or replace the filter cartridges as often as possible if not daily until cleared.

yeah maybe that's what i need to do, i've just always had "luck" i guess and it's cleared up on it's own without filtration other than live rock.....guess i'll be putting some filters in there :(

Oh yeah i've checked peramiters its not that, it's just freaking sand that won't settle down :(

a canister filter is your best bet for stuff like that

try seeding your tank with some old sands from an establish tank...i set up a nano and within 1 week it cleared and it is now holding livestocks.

Do you have a powerhead? I made the mistake once of having my powerhead actually churning my sand...that was dumb.

I ran a canister filter in my 75 gallon and it still took 2 weeks to clear up.

Thats why I advocate washing and soaking in old tank water for a few weeks. Reall helps it settle.

I know that no good now......

do you have rock in there zac? Add some food to get the bacteria growing, or old tank water

Yeah i have appox 30lbs of rock in there about 20lbs of live from another tank. And yes there is also old sand from an existing tank. I rinsed the agramax but obviously not enough. I added a canister filter to it last night and that helped out a little bit, i can acctually kinda see the rock now for the first time. I guess i'll just have to have a little more patience :(

Zac, add some bacterial food.....without it they wont grow, some flake food will do nicely.
