Well, my fire coral (LEGALY propigated) is fragged in 3 sections and 2 are up for "offers".

Given the big response I've had to interest in frags of this,

I'll start the bidding at 40.00 a 8+ inch frag....

here is why:

Status

Listed in Appendix II of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). International trade in live or dead specimens is subject to licensing. Trade without such permits is likely to constitute a criminal offence. Individual countries may have bans or restrictions on the collection or export of Millepora.

Description:

Fire coral may grow in a variety of shapes, including column-like, encrusting (flattened), branching, rounded, plate-like or box-shaped. Live colonies are usually yellow-brown usually with pale edges or branch tips. Occasionally colonies may be green or pink. Tiny, hair-like dactylozooids may be visible during the day and night. Fire coral skeletons may retain the colouration of the live coral. The skeleton has a smooth surface covered in pores of two different sizes. Millepora species are known as fire corals because the stinging cells (nematocysts) contained in the dactylozooids are powerful enough to cause a strong reaction in humans.

These are true Caribbean Miliepora tenella.

Anyone want a rare item in a SPS tank, this is one for U ;)

Drooling and butt kissing begins NOW :p

kreeger1-
got something up your butt? you aren't even a local so why the heck do you see you need to mod our forum!!! See no indications of an auction here- do you feel you just need to remind us???? Dave said bidding starts at $40- but if you were a local would know that doesn't mean an auction.

Joe and the other "advisors"- yet another reason we need to take our forums private. I'm amazed at the random people that find there way here.... seldomly with anything useful to offer.

Dave- let's talk trade. bring a $40 frag over and you can pick out what you want. I'm sure I have a bunch of stuff of interest.

gah. yeah gimme day or so, and i'll snap a pic.

Oh, and the Bidding war was not for price, it was for "shmooze" factor. The biggest shmooze (plus the 40.00) wins :p

soooo interested in a trade? if not I can pay ya. that is one of those corals that while ugly typically, should be kept in multiple tanks.

Razz, yeah I got it, I just don't have a pic of it at the time.

To describe it, it is brown, and not fairly interesting, and it encrust.

It does pack a fun sting if you are a sensetive person and brush your hand over it. I think I'm fairly immune to it now, but it is still a fun coral to threaten throwing at your spouse if she misbehaves at "Ladiesnight out" :D

This sells for $70 for a 5-6" frag at Pet Advantage in Burlington, VT... $40 is a great deal for a fairly rare coral.
