canopy support question

i am gonig to build this canopy for my 40b, my question is when the top is up wont it be too much pressue on that little piece of wood in the back, also i am wondeirng if you have to put glass between my 4vho bulbs with waterproof endcaps, and where my ballest can go

No need for the glass, IMO. You may want to put a small fan in there to help vent it though. I would use waterproof endcaps, definately though. You can run the ballast to the back of the canopy (on the very outside) or probably anywhere outside the canopy/stand. Make sure there isn't too much moisture near the ballast.
