Don't want them mangling anything... Any good ways to cover the intake?

What are you trying to keep it from mangling? I have 3, and they are all "like they come" and I have never had a problem with anything getting into them.

My main concern is this. My new RBTA wandered some yesterday so I worry it might try to float some.
I also would hate to see any snails get mangled.

I reckon I never thought of this. I sometimes drop frozen food on top of mine and let it get blown through the impeller as it disolves (not that I recommend this -- do as I say, not as I do). :)
