Can you tell me the difference of the two types of RD pump. the pumps and the power waves? Also how do i find the dimensions of the pumps?

The powerwaves are more like a supercharged powerheads and designed to be used in tank.
The Red Dragon pump is a return/circulation pump.

Hi Brian,
What are the diameters for the inlet and outlet of 6m3 and 8m3? Someone mentioned that Red Dragon pumps are not very reliable, is that true? Are these pumps really dead quiet? I need a very very quiet pump as return for my 140G tank. The Sequence Dart I just got is quiet noisy and we can hear it upstairs. Sequence is sending me a replacement, I am not sure if it will make a difference or not.
Thanks,
Sean

Moonpod mentioned that in one of his thread. He said he returned 2 out 5.
Here is the link to the thread. (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=804450&highlight=red+dragon+pump) He mentioned that at the end of the thread.

Yeah I talked with Chuck about it and he seemed ok with it since they replaced them. I think Chuck, Kris4647 and Skippyreef are the 3 folks that have used them. There are more users over on zeovit.com but the site is down. Most people seem very happy with them. Kris mentioned to me that the larger models do have a slight hum but those push TOOOONS of water. The 10 and under I believe are silent. The 2000 model on my skimmer was dead silent.
My new tank comes with an Eheim as a return, if its silent I'll keep it, otherwise I'll go to the 4.5 m3.

I have heard of moonpods issue with the two pumps, and unfortunately with equipment there can be a manufacturing defects. I have not heard of any failures since. The good thing is that replacements were sent out to take care of him.
The Red Dragon pumps are truly that quiet, and can not be beat for energy consumption.

Hi Brain,
What's the size for the inlet and outlet og the 6m3? I will get one if the replacement Dart is still noisy.

The other website is back up. There are a LOT more BK and RD users over there (worldwide), check it out. Just search RD or Red Dragon.

I'm looking at a RD for my main pump and looking for about 2000 gph turnover at about 4-5ft of head pressure. What would be the best for this application? And what is the website for Red Dragon/Bubble King? ~Matt

The best pump for you would be the 10m3, but for the price difference I would just go with the 12m3 and valve it down if needed.
The main site for Royal Exclusiv is http://english.royal-exclusiv.de/index2.htm

Brian,
Do you happen to know the outlet sizes on the 6 and 8. Will they fit or adapt to any standard pvc fittings?
FinsReef

The ouput size on the 6 and 8 is 40mm. They are sent with a short section on silicone hose to convert to US pvc, or conversion unions are an option also.

Brian - the suction is 40mm on the RDs but the outlet looks much smaller on the 6and 8. On another forum it appears to be 25mm. RD 12 are 40mm outlet.

Brian,
I am in the process f upgraded to help bring down the electric bill and had some questions.
Im in the market for two RD, one for a sump>chiller>return pump and one on a cl. Im thinking 4.5m3 or 6.5m3 for the return. As for the CL I just dont know which model.
All of my equipment is located in the living room so noise is a big concern. My new tank is going to be a 36x36x24 semi cube. Mainly sps and a few clams :). What RD pump do you recommend for this application. There will also be sand in this tank. These 2 pumps will be my only circulation within the tank. If i have dead spots ill hook up the tunze 6100's if not ill sell those off. I just dont like the look of ph inside the tank.

Northerner,
There is currently a very limited availability of Red Dragons. Please lmk what units you are looking for.
CraigsReef,
I would go with the 6.5 for return. and a 4.5 for closed loop.

I have a Red Dragon 4.5 m3 with no anti-lime bypass. Is there any method of upgrading it to add this feature? ~Matt
