I added a LMB to help with an algae problem I was having. The problem is that he and his snail friends have done too good of a job. Now his belly is pinched in and he's not quite as active.

He is trying to feed, there just isn't enough there for him. I've tried putting in Algae sheets with some success. The yellow tang is pretty dominate though and he doesn't get much (even if I put in two).

I've also tried algae wafers, but the hermits are more interested in those then he is

Any ideas for keeping this guy fat and fed?

Thanks

Try sinking pellets. If all else fails, trade him in and get something else... I know plenty of people on RC who are having HA issues and could use a good algae eater.....

Have you tried Ocean Nutrition Formula Two flakes or frozen. It is specifically for herbivores. My bicolor eats it up. The bicolor is also listed as an herbivore but will eat frozen mysis.

Shrimp pellets will make him delirious.

If I had to choose between a LMB and tang, I'll pick the LMB anytime.

I have both, and though the tang is pretty aggressive over the algae sheet, both do get it fine.

Same thing happened to my LMB. I got him to eat formula 2 flake food with kent garlic added to it. This worked and also lead to him eating other things as well.

What is an LMB? I didn't see it in the acronym list...

Lawnmower blenny. Great fish, very popular.

I will be picking up a LMB at the lfs tomorrow. If they get use to eating formula 2 while in qt, will they still eat the algae once they go into my main tank?

Thanks for all the advice. I'll try some of the flake food or other suggestions. I guess if he gets hungry enough, he'll learn to compete with the tang. :)
