This is probably a very stupid question....but is there anything wrong with having a substrate that is total live sand?
I am setting up a 6G NC and the LFS sells substrate in 20 lbs bags, so I can only use half the bag or so, and I would like some ls, so I figured use the whole substrate via ls
what do you think?

Nothing wrong with only/all LS. All my tanks only have LS.

Thanks...I didn't think so, but a lot of books i have read said to do 10% live sand, but didn't know a reason more than money. So I was just checking

The live sand in bags is likely not worth the extra cost, since it has at most some bacteria on it. Using it won't hurt anything, though.

If you just want an inch of sand for looks, you can use all dry sand. Good-quality live sand is expensive. BillsReef.com gets some good reviews, and InlandAquatics and ipsf.com are vendors I've used for other animals.

Some good live sand might help prevent solidifying, and maybe contribute to a cleaner sandbed, but it's not necessary at all.

from what I have been readying 10% ls will seed the rest of the sand. So in your situation, do 1 bag of ls and put the rest dry sand
