I picked up this scolymia today fro $20. Its a bit of a "rescue" coral but these generally go for way more around Houston. As you can see, the entire center area has pulled back or has died off. This is the first one my wife and I have purchased and we are hoping that we can "bring it back" from its current condition. I currently have it in my sump (no crawling critters to bother it) under a 50/50 18W PC bulb. The flow is pretty calm.

Any special suggestions as to how to care for it? What do they like to eat?

try feeding it some Mysis shrimp. Or a very small piece of raw shrimp. I would feed it at least 3 times a week and see if it will recover for you. HTH

With the lights out it will open up and release it's sweepers if it can still eat.....mysis shrimp is the way to go because they will be easy to digest.

I have one that was far worse than yours and it came back. I didn't even feed it very often. It will probably take a while though.

Thats what I wanted to hear srb5046th!

I fed with Mysis shrimp this morning ad it looks really good right now. Someone mentioned that I should feed at night when the sweepers tentacles are out.. but I dont think it has any!

Any Ideas as to what happened to it? Physical damage or infection?

Thanks again for all of the replys. Encouraging words for sure.
