Who wants to join in on a salt order?

I think I counted about 6-10 buckets in previous posts.

I'd probably take 3-4, but I can't coordinate the order if it happens in April. I could probably do it in May though.

I need 3 or so.
I would like to say that the Kent salt I got last time had magnesium level of 1050 and calcium was less than ideal also. Alk was 9.6. There is also a huge thread about Kent salt in the chemistry forum. Apparently they shipped a bunch of salt with no alkalinity. One drop on a salifert test kit changed the color. The salt was in a bag in the bucket and the bucket has yellow labels. Kent has changed the packaging. Anyway they probably fixed it by now but a heads up. I guess debating salt would be like arguing about Ford VS Chevy...

How much is a bucket?

TriMax

I would say between $35 and $40. It was $35 last time.

I'd be interested in some...just need a date when you will be ordering. I vote for Kent or Oceanic

I vote Kent personally. I haven't been having much of a problem with their salt, but if you guys want to switch, that's fine. I'd rather stick with what we have but that's just me.

I'd be up for a bucket... maybe two I'll let ya know when an order date is set.

EvilMel

We all end up prepaying (I'm sure it won't be in the next week or so) and then we place the order. The buckets get spoken for very quickly usually, so if you want more than 1 you better go ahead and speak up! hah hah. Trust me...I know from experience.

hmm.. One for now then

If anyone is in critical need, I have 3 (Kent) I could sell. If nobody needs them before we order I'll take 2-3 in the new order. If some sell, I'll add that to my order so I have 5-6 onhand after all is said and done.

I should be setting up my 135G and the 65G again in the next month, so that will take my 1 unopened bucket that I have. If we can set this up for around mid May delivery, that would be great.

I'll take 2.

Put me down for 2 buckets of salt, Kent, Oceanic, or whatever is the best deal that the club goes with.

Let me know a total price and who to give money to.

I'll take 2.

BTW - I stopped by the CR on the way home from work and asked them about the salt order. Chris said he could get us the 160gal bucket of Instant Ocean for $39+tax. He said it would have to be a group buy where we would preorder and pay, he would order at the first of the week and the salt would arrive at the end of the week. Then you would just go by the store and pick up your buckets.

Just wanted to throw that out as an option. Concerning brands, I can go with whatever the group decides.

I'm out if we do IO....I hate that stuff LOL

After we get closer to a final number, some of us have online vendors we can contact to compare pricing. Hopefully the CR will be close and I'd pay a couple bucks extra to support LFS (I dont like the idea of supporting Uncle Sam as long as he's still giving us an "out" via internet purchase though).

Dave, IMO, no thread in ETRC should be without a hijack attempt if it gets +5 posts:D Unfortunately, I didnt get the one where she loaded the oven AND poured flour in the oven, all the cans in the lazy-suzan, kitchen floor, and all over herself! As a Papaw I got to laugh as I cleaned it all up. There's nothing better than a grand daughter except MAYBE a grand son. That's yet to be experienced but I love being 40 and being able to spoil her all weekend and sending her home to mommy. A candy bar just before she leaves for home always gives me a chuckle. Payback is a MF...

;) more hijack, imsqueak, you and my mother sound like you have taken the SAME grandparenting classes! Funny how you would have killed "your" child 20 years ago for the mess but it's sooo cute when its the grandaughter  Thats the great part of having grandbabies!

If we go with IO, I'm out. Also, if we pick them up at the CR I'm out as well. Last time I got completely screwed on that deal.

It's a fine store and I want to support it but I am not going to buy salt from there as part of the group order again.

We typically get Kent salt buckets (200g) for $35 including tax and shipping from either Premium Aquatics or Customaquatic.com. That's $4 less per bucket and we get 60g more water out of each. IMO that's the only way to go. Premium Aquatics is who we ordered from last time, they are a great company and that's who I think we should go with again. JMO.

I'll take 4 or 5 if it's Kent.

Are these numbers correct? I will need to contact suppliers to find out how much each bucket will cost and where the price breaks fall (quantity ordered that is). That is unless someone else wants to do the ordering.

I'm in for at least 2 buckets, maybe more. It just depends on what brand, when the order is placed, etc.

PA will give us $5 off any salt 150g or more. Unfortunately it was a short reply that did not address shipping so I'll follow up on that when we decide on the brand and quantity. It will obviously be better for all if we have an order sizeable enough to direct ship from the actual supplier. Maybe we can put Matt's distributor clout to work and order a shipment from the supplier ourselves and I'll put my trucking discounts to work on the delivery.

EvilMel

That sounds good Don. Maybe you can check on the cost (incl. shipping) if we order say 36 or 48 SeaChem 200g buckets?
