I just received my Salifert Test Kits.
My testing is as follows.
PH= 8.0 to 8.1
Alk.= 3.66
KH= 10.2
Cal.=450

I would like to raise my PH. I have read that it helps to raise PH to get rid of Bubble Algae which I am really fighting. What is the best way to do this without throwing everything out of wack?

Thanks,
Sally

I would not think that removing bubble algae would raise pH.. Algae does not lower pH, typically. Most algae would cause a net rise in pH as they photosynthesize and use CO2.

The pH is fine, but to raise it, I'd use a high pH calcium and alkalinity supplement such as limewater, or provide more aeration with fresh air. Limewater will not likely boost anything too high as long as pH does not get too high. The demand for calcium and alkalinity rises as pH rises, so the adding calcium and alkalinity from limewater is usually offset by higher demand.

Thank You, Randy.
Is there a link that explains exactly how to set up and drip Limewater? I don't usually add anything, but I would like to try and raise the PH to stop the Bubble Algae. I am also thinking about trying Rowaphos, but don't know how to run a reactor.

Thanks,
Sally

This article has more on limewater (and it has other links in it):

I wouldn't recommend running GFO in a reactor. I would use in in a cannister filter.

I have a Magnum. Would that work?
Thanks for all the help!

Yes, as long as it pushes water through the GFO, that should work fine. :)
