JBJ has a great calculator for chillers. Lighting is not the only issue with a chiller. PH, pumps, skimmers, addtional fans, open top, does the tank have a glass cover..etc...etc. all come into play to determine if the chiller is going to be able to drop the tank temp.

P.S. What type of anthropology are you interested in. I got my anthro degree from ASU with a minor in geological evolution. could not find the perfect job so I took one in the Environmental field.

My friend had a 220 in his garage, during a hot CA summer his 1/3 jbj keeps his system very cool. He was running 4 250watt MH + a few mag pumps. He is how running the same chiller on a 300 system with 6 250watt mh + 220watt vho and even more mag pumps in the same garage and its still doing fine.

I got my BS from University of N Fla. Was going to go for a masters so I could live in indonesia and get paid. Ended up finding a great job in a non related field. There are no good paying jobs in the field...yet

I am running a mag 36 return, 3 seios (2 1500 and a 1100) mag 2 on ca reactor and a 7 or 9 on the skimmer. Ca reactor mag is external. Open canopy w/fans

I just bought the JBJ Arctica 1/5hp for my 110. I have 2 250MH on a pfo, 2 75w VHO on Icecap 660, 2 seios (820) 2 mj1200 a mag 9.5 return, an ASM G2 running the sedra 5000 and a Aqua 2600 feeding the chiller. Everything else is out side of the tank. I am running 2 4" fans in the hood and 1 6" fan above the sump. I am using a medusa controller for the fans and heater set at 80.5 oF and my chiller to come on at 82 oF. My tank is steady at 81 right now, but being in Arizona this summer will test the chiller I am sure.

Rich.

My friend just got back from Thiland. She went over there with her anthro degree and end up just teaching english in the schools now she is back and going to Beauty school.

I think 1/3 HP in Florida will be very good by if your house is Aircon then 1/4 shall be enough. If you were farther north I would have suggested a 1/4HP even without aircon.

My 1/4 HP has no trouble with my 180 in New Jersey. My hood is open-topped and I have a fan on my sump, which helps reduce the demand. We tend not to run the AC unless it gets ungodly hot, but the chiller still does just fine.

Thaks for all the good advice. I found a used 1/3hp for $150, its old but works. An edit for my previous post, I got an BA not BS in anthro. BS is a science major.

I am going to get 3 400w mh lights in the furture so I will need the chiller for sure. Thanks again
