i recently got a deal online for a catilina 6x54 t-5ho fixture with moonlights for 200 shipped, i was reading about t-5 individual refelctor importance and noticed that noone has mentioned what can be kept without individual reflectors. there is only one in my setup. does anyone have any experience with this style or product? if not would maybee 3 individual reflectors in the middle be ok b/c i can fit 6 indiv. refectors in that hood. any advise would be great.

I have the 8x39w on my almost 90 (54 were a little to long for my 47" tank. I kept a few sps at the top of the tank with no problems, I don't think you would do so well at the bottom though. I have added individual reflectors to it now. My more light loving corals just don't do great on my sand bed. I am running 7 10000k and one blue+ bulbs right now. If you want to try sps, get 1 small frag and see how it does before going all out for a frag pack.

i have the 6x54w on my 55g. the only thing wrong with it was the bulbs kinda suck. i got 5 new bulbs from drs foster and smith(they didn't have the extra 10000k on hand) and it was a huge difference. i can really see the difference between the 1 catalina bulb left in there next to the bulbs i got from foster and smith, the catalina doesn't put out near as much light. i heard reefgeek.com has some good bulbs, too:)

I can tell you the catalina actinic is awful close to the D+D blue+ as I have both, the 10000k is brighter than the D+D sun bulb as well. My only complaint with the catalina 10000k is they tend to develope a slightly pinkish color after 9 or 10 months. For the price though not to bad. I will be switching to the new uri bulbs when they are available.

Not saying sps would definatley work, but should providing all other conditions are met. No personal experience with clams, but I would not think they would do so well at the bottom of the tank.

Without individual fixtures consider your T5 at 1/2 output. Might as well get PC cause thats all its worth.

Everyone says that but T5 and PC are VERY close (same) in price. With increased output/watt, longer bulb life, adding reflectors later, why would I want PC?

Sorry, I know this isn't relevant to the thread, but I'm wondering if there's more to this comment than a slam.
