Can Mantis's reconize people???

I have a interesting question that has puzzled me since I got my mantis. When I first got my mantis he would be quite edgy and always shoot into the nearest hole whenever anyone came in the room. After a while I noticed that when I came into the room he would usually stay out but if anyone else came in into the hole he went. I usually dont watch my pets eat because it makes most animals unconfortable I think but I made the exception for the mantis because I am curious about its eating/hunting behaviors. Usually when I feed him he will come right up to the glass to accept the food but I've noticed whenever my friends are over, he makes me put the food right in front of the cave for him. Does he reconize me as not being a threat and think everyone else is or does he just get stressed when too many people are around?:confused:

My mantis always hides in his cravis, but everytime I come to the tank he comes out expecting food and he always gets it.
