Well as some of you might have read in my other post i was facing a dilemma of ich in my reef and i did not have power (thanks to the storm last sunday).
Well with not enough power from my generator to set up a QT tank i went to Springfield and picked up some of MARINE AQUARIA NO ICH that is safe with inverts and reef safe. I was not liking the fact of using it to begin with cause there is no way to test for it in the tank and i was worried about overdosing.
Anyway i dosed it accoriding to the instructions exactly. I was seriously crossing my fingers that this would work and save me from having 2 crying little children cause there fish were dead. Anyway long story short after 3 days of using it there was absolutly NO improvement and our Hippo tang had went from about 8 spots to looking like she was in a snow storm.......even had it on her eyes!
Last night i decided that the medication wasnt workin and ran out and got a HOT filter and setup a 35 hex i had laying in the closet for a hospital tank. Used water from the reef and threw in 2 biowheels that was on my sons FOWLR tank. Hoping that i wouldnt have nothing more than a minor cycle. It is BB with some PVC tubes on bottom for hiding. Dosed the tank with copper last night and today "DORI" is looking much better. Last night the royal gramma was even laying on bottom panting heavily and i didnt think he had a chance. Well now hes out swimmin around normal lookin fine.
I think i can honestly say that i WASTED $30 on a product that didnt work at all......at least for me. The LFS that sold it to me swore by it and said many of thier customers said it worked. Well i would like to meet these people. Kind of funny that the "NO ICH" was thier most expensive med they had.
Anyway im testing water like there is no tomorrow.....watching for a cycle and being careful not to overdose the copper! and crossing my fingers for my 6 little guys in the hospital!

Moral of the story...... If it sounds too goo to be true than it probably is! oh..........and QT all new comers!!!! :D

Has anyone ever used this stuff with sucess?

That sucks Wes :(

The only product I've ever used was "Kick Ich" and it worked like a charm. I hope everybody pulls through!

Sorry, I've heard of very few success stories with the chemicals. I was going to offer you the services of my 29 gal QT/hospital tank I have set up here, but I wasn't sure about how many/how big your fish were and if they'd all be ok in it. Hope your tank works out.

Has anyone tried a freshwater dip? The one time I've dealt with ich I used that. I filled a small bucket with RO/DI water and put my clownfish in it for about 1 minute. The ich pops like pimples! It doesn't CURE the problem but it might buy you some time...we had to do that because I couldn't get Kick Ich locally.

IMO fresh water dips is a last resort, It stresses the fish out more than it does good. Do not run copper for a long time it is not good for your fish.

If they are covered with what looks like flour it's a different disease which those products will most likely not work on. RXp was the only "reefsafe" med that worked for me. Copper works as long as the fish is not too far gone.

Do a search for Oodinium.

There is a REALLY good book on Fish disease:
Handbook of Fish Diseases by Dieter Untergasser.

I defeated ICH with hypo-salinity and leaving the display fallow for 8 weeks. Only lost one fish during the whole ordeal. I used no chemicals. It has been about 6 weeks since they have been back in the tank and they look happy and fat. Good luck, I feel your pain.

I was really wanting to run a tank with no additives, meds, etc...

I however, with my blue tang had to use the Metronidazole. (just 2 times and I just cut up some nori and garlic and a littler RO water, some flake food, with the meds...Worked great! For $10, it's hard not to hae some on hand...Invert safe! I believe that was Fade32's advice (BTW-Thanks)
Now I know I new to the hobby somewhat but I agree that a FW Dip is a last resort. Well second to last. Cutting the fins off is the last. Don't do this! Obviously, in this case you had only a few options and with a blue tang, they are more prone to ich than others. But, fish get stressed and the proper water conditions and a healthy fish should recover. Just watch closely. My foxface is so healthy that I feel he can withstand a bit more than other fish.
