View Full Version : Any info on Hydor Flo Rotating Water Deflector?

I already have a scwd set up on my return to my tank, but still want a little more wave effect. This product looks cheap and something that could help me, just hook it up to my powerhead and let it go. Water Deflector (http://www.marinedepot.com/md_viewItem.asp?idproduct=HD01401)
Question: Is there any special way it has to be hooked up, and just anything that could help me.
Thanks
Patrick :)

they are alright they seem to cut your flow down a lot though.

These rotating deflectors work fine. I use 3 on my return lines and they do provide significant back-pressure. But, I'm pushing water with a GRI pump so they work OK. The adapter kits don't seem to fit my plumbing all that well, maybe they're metric or something....
If you have small snails, they tend to get in behing the cover and jam the device....water still flows but without rotation.
I like the way they can be used to break/disturb the water surface....adds shimmer to the MHs....

Would it work with the Maxi Jet 1200?

My snails seem to enjoy riding on the rotating thing. But it makes the rotating thing stop right while it is magically pointing towards the sand. Bad trip.
I like the rotating things, but don't like my turbo snails. >:(

I like mine....I have it higher up to break the surface of the water. Mine is not on the return. I'm about to put it on a maxijet when it arrives, now it's on a Cap and works fair. It is, afterall, only a 10 dollar product....I will continue to use mine and will have it opposing a Seio pump soon and see how that does.

I have one hooked up to an mj900 on my 12g nanocube. It is really really nice. I did add a second powerhead and return, though.
I think they are great, and like has been said, adds to the shimmer lines. My sps corals seem to be happy with the variable flow. :)

I have one on a Powerhead 402, it's perfect for me since the powerhead is in a small hex tank and was overpowered for the tank, but with the Hydor it's just right.

I like it. I have the SCWD and 2x Hydorflo setup. Check out the flow.

HOLY FLOW batman!! I see why you are the XeniaManiac!
I've been thinking of adding a SCWD to my return too......looks like I might have to do it.

I've tried them on the return and anything that gets sucked through the line seems to plug up the hydor flo.

Ok, thanks for the help everyone!
Im going to get one, put it on my current powerhead, the bad thing is it is only rated 175GPH. So when I get the money I will get the Maxi-Jet 1200.
Thanks again!
