Tornado in skimmer

Is it normal to have a tornado activity inside of the skimmer? Just wondering.

Yea, thats how they work, by creating a tornado of bubbles inside the skimmer.

do you have any recommendations on how to modify this thing to skim better? I had to order a new impellar for the turbo pump that came with it.. I have a rio 1700 running the skimmer now. I know of the kent venturi mod but is there anything else that can be done with this skimmer.. I realize it's not the best or most highly though of product. Any help is appreciated
