If you were to swap an open brain coral for a fox coral with a fellow reefer, and you discover that your water conditions are close to identical? both are 1.025, ALK of 9-10dKH, and calcium within 20ppm. Would you still go through an hour and a half to two hours of acclimation? Or would you just put the bag in your tank until the temps become equal?

Just to be on the safe side I would still acclimate the coral to your tank, especially a coral. There's no telling what else might be different in your tank. What is the pH of both tanks?

pH is always dependent on time of day, but they run similar. Probably within .1 of each other. Interesting point though because when you seal a plastic bag to transfer the coral ( A 30 minute drive) no doubt pH will be impacted. Hadn't thought about that.

I would still acclimate. I have 2 tanks sitting next to each other and if I wanna move something into different tanks I will still acclimate. I dont know I just feel better.

I have never spent more than an hour acclimating a coral. 2 hours, wow, must be one sensitive coral.

I always acclimate, there are too may variables in seawater that can induce osmotic shock.

if it was like mushrooms then i would say pick em out and put em in the new tank cos theyre hardy as hell, same with zoos in my experience.

I would take the time to acclimate as well, just to be on the safe side.

i always acclimate corals and fish. Corals i tend to do for about 1 hour and fish about 10-20 min. With snails and crabs i just throw them into the tank, haven't lost one yet.
