I am having a canopy built soon. I have been putting it off for too long.

GIve me your input

Design goals:

1) To go from 1 - 96 watt smart lamp to 2 - 96 watt compact fluorescents

2) 2- 120 mm PC fans blowing in from the back. Will slow them down so they shouldn't be too noisy. Will speed up with higher temperatures. Placing on back as the tank is 36" wide. With the 96 watt bulbs I won't have enough room to put the fans on both sides w/o having them on the outside of the tank (that wont' look good!)

3) Will place slots on the sides toward the top to vent out the hot air and the air from the fans to help keep things cool.

4) I would like to have the top open for major work and to bring the lights up with the top. Will also have the front doors open for daily feeding and quick access.

5) THis should help keep the fish from jumping out! I have lost too many fish from jumping out of the tank. The back will just have opening for the necessary plumbing, electrical, etc.

6) The canopy will be 12.5" tall. Should I make it a little higher?

Is there anything I'm forgetting? You input based on your experiences would be great. I'm hoping to have a local guy start building it soon.

Here is a picture of the design so far.

Like the design but 12.5 seems a little short

From the ground to top of tank is about 46". What would you suggest for the height? 14"?

Since it is a 30 gallon tank and is about 36" wide x 13" front to back, I didn't want it looking out of proportion. Although I do admit the 12.5" is a bit short.

Here is the current design with 12.5"
