Lots of discussion on the later in this thread:

I recently bought two of the 3000s, and I set one up on a 220 gal last week. I'm still getting it broken in and dialed the way I like it, but I think it has potential. I will say that there is one small flaw in the design, which is that the gasket for the pump connection covers up part of the air intake hole. I am going to order a small o-ring to replace the gasket to let more air in. Others have done this simple mod and had good results.

Go to www.asmskimmer.com. They can make your ASM a recirculating skimmer, vastly increasing it's already good efficiency.
