Well about 7 months ago I added a small box fish to my tank. He was doing perfect. Growing very fast, eating everything, nothing bothered him.

Then yesterday I wake up and there he is dead, with my two clown fish and every snail in my tank.

Oddly enough, all corals are fine, all crabs, my shrimp, my Mandarin Goby, My Red Banded Goby, my Pistol shrimp. Everything is fine.

It seems the hardiest things in my tank died. The two clowns and my snails. There was nothing wrong the night before. And then they died.

There seems to be no explanation. Is there anything anyone can come up with that would explain this?

The box fish died and released toxins that target only vertabrates

edit: Whoops... missed the snail part. Either way, the box fish are toxic.

You obviously didn't read very well, two fish survived.

So do you have any answers? I knew box fish were toxic when they die, but it doesn't explain some fish living and some invertebrates dieing.

Obviously some were more sensitive than others, or got a larger dose.

I always figured corals would be the first to go and the clowns/snails would be last.

It seems the hardier things died.

I would not say that snails are some of the hardiest creatures... Far from it. They can die from almost anything. temp changes, salinity, PH, copper... although in this case poison is still the probable cause.
As far as some fish living and some "not", there could be any number of reasons.
