ok ok i know this will be a dumb question but i was just wondering. if you have everything from protein skimmer and uv sterilizer and a FO only tank what's the purpose of a water change? just curious

When you do a water change, you are replacing trace elements that are in your salt mix.

....and help reduce refractory organics (none removable by other means) accumulated in the water as well as re-balance chloride, sulphate and sodium ions unbalanced by additives and reduce the levels of Nitrates and Phosphates that skimming or refugium could not handle.
