Getting a tank from glasscages.com 240 Gallon 96x24x25. I am making my own stand. Will six 4x4 deck post with 2x4 framing be enough to hold 2000 pounds? I don't really want to do 8 post. I like the idea of having two large front openings rather than 3 smaller ones.

People always say to just go look at the store bought stands and see how flimsy they are built..........I'm sure you'll be fine.
I have a 125 and used 2x4's to build it...On your 96" tank, the weight is spread out over a long span.

When I build my next stand the front supports will use pocket screws so they are removeable. That way I can install as large a sump as I want and then put the supports in. If you are looking at two doors I would suggest a 2 x 6 for the header

i don't know the exact figure, but a standard, straight 2x4 can hold well over a thousand lbs all by it self... 6 4x4's should do just fine... :-)

Not an engineer so I can't comment on the rating but logic of DIY i to overbuild. 4 x 4 for the corner is overkill and you can ust use 2 x 4. For the header across the front it depends on where your suports are. My tank (225 gal 60 x 30) has a 36 inch span unsupported and that is with 2 x 4, doubled with the 1 x 4 face (glued on). If you build a support (skinned) 12 inches on each side that leaves a 6 foot span. I would be uncomfortable spanning that with a 2 x 4. If I was going to stay with 2 x 4 faced with oak I would just reinforce it with a 1 1/2 alumimum angle iron glued and screwed under and the the back side of the 2 x 4
