I have had a Majestic Angel in my 110 FO tank for almost a year. Now that I have my 240 reef set-up, I really want to put her in there, but I don't know if I can trust her. I have a few LPS that I have had for a long time and I would be pretty upset if she decided to destroy them. I am just wondering how many people have actually had a Majestic in their reef and what your experience was with them picking at things. I have cherub angels that are perfect citizens. I feed regularly and keep them pretty fat, I think that has something to do with it also. Any info. would be great!

No one has had any experience with a Majestic Angel in their reef?

The girlfriend has one in her reef. She says it ate her frogspawn, but left her hammer alone...
I think its a hit or miss thing. Depends on the fish.

I had one for a year and a half and the only thing it ate was what I fed it. I had a threadfin fly too and it didn't bother anything except a serpent star. Wierd.

8+ years and counting and the only thing mine seems to have a distinct taste for are open brains. He/she periodically nips at other stuff here and there, but nothing more serious than a taste check.

I had one for a few months and it picked at most LPS and zoos and occasionally picked some clams - so it was removed. It never went after any SPS which is the majority of coral in my tank.

Well, the open brain is the one I am really attached to. It is a monster and that is the main reason I am so scared to put her in there... I guess it is a no, at least for now. I almost want to test her out with something just because she would be such a cool addition to that tank, but I can't really afford to buy a coral just to see if she eats it and then have her eat mine in the end anyway...

I have one in my reef and he is well behaved. He eats mini-featherdusters and occasionally picks at SPS, but he's never eating tissue... I think hes going after slime or coral barnacles. Eventually the corals dont even retract when hes doing his nip thing, so I know he doesnt do damage.

This is similar to mine, although I have no clams, brains or SPS in the tank...just softies and a couple LPS such as a torch and a frogspawn. I've seen him appear to peck in and around some button polyps, but like you said, he appears to be grabbing stuff that's in there other than the actual polyps.

That is the way my cherub is... I will see her pick at the brain and other things, but they don't even retract. I think she is just eating food and what not that has settled on it. I think I am going to try it out. I just might see what she does with the hammer, softies, zoos, etc. before I stick the brain in there. Wish me luck!

Well, on Tuesday, I decided to go for it. Needless to say I got her out today. Luckily she is too big to really hide. I just had to block the few places she could get into. She was fine at first. I saw her kind of "test out" a few things. Mostly snails, shrooms and leathers. I wasn't that worried about it because she didn't seem to really be damaging anything and didn't even look at my prize lobo. Well, I saw her pick at some zoas and within a day or two, was really starting to hurt them. I went ahead and got her out before she could destroy the entire colony she was concentrating on. At least I know now and I don't have to wonder anymore! It was worth the try, but not worth my zoas...
