Hi,

I just trimmed one of my leathers (as it was irritating my pipe organ coral) and have noticed a few things:

1 - skimmer stopped producing bubbles
2 - sump is a bit stinky
3 - the water looks a tad hazy
4 - Ginopora is not fully expanded

I was wondering if these events are normal after trimming leathers.

BTW the leather looks fine. but it's everything else thats a bit off.

I've just added more carbon to help clear up the water.

tks for yr input.

Kamil

Not unless part has died and is decomposing, or something else has- I'd do a couple of larger water changes over a few days, keep running the carbon, and sadly, the goniopora may be on the decline, as is common with that species- how long have you had it? Good luck-

Fragging leathers oftebn results in toxin (terpenes) release, which can have the impact described. It is best to frag them in a separate body of water, then replace them in the tank after about an hour or so.

I would assume the haziness in the tank is from juices released when you cut the leather. The skimmer not producing bubbles could be caused by the same thing, but sometimes just sticking your hand in the tank will cause the skimmer to stop working well temporarily because of the oils and anything else on them.

The carbon should help get rid of the haziness and smell.
