Got a 20g high. Been "cycled" about 3 months. Still having some brown alagae, I guess diatoms?, problems. I have about 3 powerheads and a powerfilter for flow. I dont usually use the pad in the powerfilter, it just holds my dose drip and heater. But, when I do the turkey baster thing, TONS of crud comes out of my rock. Obviously I used to feed to often :). So what I figured is put a pad in the filter and turkey baster the thing for a couple hours. Did this about a week or so ago. Again this week TONS of MUCK. Is this just the way it is? My water params have been very good. 0 everything, 450 Ca, 1250 Mg, 11dKh. Also have a prizm puliing some stuff out, not tons mind you. Just the way it is? My rock isnt nice and purple like ya'lls. It pretty green and brown, not hairy though :)

Do you have a clean up crew in that tank? Also, having algae in a new tank is totally normal.

have about 15 crabs a few nars. 1 trouchus, and 3 margaritas. had a few cerinths and nars die from crabs i think.

I wouldn't worry about the muck as long as the water parameters are good. It should subside over time. It could be a lot of things.

My 20 gal nano took 8 months to clear up the diatom , cyno and green algea stage. I cut back on lighting and feeding. let your tank mature more and patience has it rewards.

My 120 gal is going through it stages at 4 months also but I know it will clear up like my 20 gal eventually.

OK Ill chill :) should I still blast the rock with the baster once a week? doesnt seem to hurt the params.

When you do your weekly water changes, try and vacuum up whatever you can. Also, look into some full time mechanical fitration.

Blasting the rock is fine, IMO. I should do it more often. So now you've inspired me. :)
