Phoenix is what I'm going with. I currently have an AB 20k on IceCap ballast. Way too blue IMO. Anyone run phoenix bulbs on an IceCap?? Curious if I should do 14k or 10k.

How do Corals react to Phoenix 14k rather than 10k - does growth rate slow much? any other appreciable changes? Or, are corals indifferent to 14k or 10k and this is just our personal preference (and the corals don't care)? Any pictures of Phoenix 14k versus 10k?

looks like the phoenix 14k de has a lot of fans. I will have to check those out when i get this 90g rolling.

any pics or threads with this bulb in question? also, from what i hear, the ballast choice makes a difference as well for coloration of each bulb.

I would go with a Sunlight supply hqi ballast. They have a 5 year warranty and are also coming out with a new pendant.

Dan,

I ran the Phoenix on my Icecap's before I switched to the Reeflux 10K's. I'm on the fence about which one I like more at this point. I still have the bulbs. If you want to check them out on my tank or borrow them to try on your tank, let me know.

I appreciate that Steve. Are you running de's at this point? I was also interested in the Reeflux 10k's after seeing the se's in action at BioReef. I'm thinking the IceCap ballasts don't drive the bulb as hard maybe? I've seen my same bulb on a hqi ballast and the color difference was night and day.

For a bluer look the phoenix. For a whiter look the BLV/Ushio.

I had phoenix 14k's on my system they were very blue so I tried ushio 14k,installed 2 weeks ago they still seem very yellow. I think I will be switching back if these bulbs don't start pleasing me in a couple more weeks. They are running off a pfo hqi ballast.

Im running Phoenix 14K 250 DE on IC for 5 months now and it is white with a blue tint and look very nice. I just ran Hammy 10K and Giesman 13K tonite just to see the difference. Hammy is too yellow and less bright than Giesman eventhough I have 2 T5 actinic supplement.

Anyone try Ushio (BLV) 14000K SE? Also more yellow compare to Phoenix???

you may have better luck starting a new thread for single ended chindapol. This one was more towards DE bulbs.

I went to a fellow club members house yesterday who uses IceCap ballasts and Reef Optix III reflectors like I do. He's running Reeflux 10K DE bulbs and 2 VHO actinics. I loved how white his DE bulbs were compared to my Aqualine Buschke 20K's. Even when he turned the actinics off the light looked good. Very white, not a trace of yellow. He let me borrow one of his Phoenix 14k bulbs to see what it looks like over my tank. He said that with his actinics on with the 10k's, the Phoenix will look very similar to that look. One other thing to think about it the lower the kelvin you can stand, the better your corals will grow. Personally, I like true white light, no blue, no yellow. Then I can "pop" the corals with some actinics. JMO

chindapol, I am running the BLV 14k 400w SE right now. It is a white/white bulb IMO. No yellow, but no blue either. Much whiter than the Phoenix.

What about the bulb life... I heard the pheonix DE bulbs go down hill rather quickly?

I have 150w XDE 20ks... Nice blue color, but very limited PAR and coral growth. I am looking to switch as well. Can't decide to go 14k or 10k. But will likely go 14K this time around.
