Is it good/bad using ice pack to reduce water heat in case of emergency?

You can. The key is to not use so much ice that you drop the temp quickly. Try freezing a couple of empty bottles with screw on lids to eliminate the possibility of leaking. Fill the bottles 3/4 full to allow for expansion.

Just dont cool it too too quickly. Try blowing a fan around the glass of the tank to keep temps lower.
