I love schools of fish,

whats your favorite school?
what do you have?

pics would be great

I would really like to see a catilina goby school, my friend had a school of 6 once but his tank had an ammonia spike and almost everything died.

chromis's dont school

Yes, the actually do and usually adpot some sort of pecking order within the school which is why it is usually best to keep them in larger groups....say 6 at a minimum.

I guess it all comes down to your definition of "school". There's a big difference between true schooling behavior in a very large tank, and a bunch of the same type of fish that have an agreeable enough temperment to hang out together.

My 6 chromis definitely school.
They let my anthias join them as well ( he's the leader)
They also hang with my pink skunk and have been hanging out
INSIDE my anemones.

no they dont, Chromis's Shoal, Shoaling is more for protection and less of a community deal. You will notice after awhile that chromis's will start killing each other off. Schooling is also for protection however is more community orientated.

I've heard some people say this, and I hope I'm not jinxing myself here, but I've had the same 6 for 4 years w/ no aggression.

Shoal (or school) is the collective noun for fish. Animal behaviourists use the term "shoal" for any group of fish, including mixed-species groups, reserving "school" for more closely knit groups of the same species swimming in a highly synchronized and polarized manner.

And post some schooling OR shoaling pictures LOL
I'm trying to figure out what small schooling, shoaling type fish to get for my tank. The smaller the better for the look I want. If I could find something that stayed in the 1/2" to 3/4" range that would be great. Any suggestions?

Thats funny I have two cardinal and they stay at oppistite sides of the tank, Is that because I only have two and you need 3 for a school?

I would highly suggest some Trimma spp. (http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1968) or some Coryphopterus personatus/Masked Goby (http://www.reeftopia.com/marinefishdeals.html) (scroll down to bottom).

So if you have enough for a school they actually move? I have one PJ Cardinal in my tank, I have to keep checking to make sure he's not suspended by a string. I don't think he's moved more than a few inches since I bought him six months ago.

I guess technically they are shoaling but my 3 firefish always hang out together. Here are 2 of the 3:
