Well it is summer time again and I don't want to do the add a brick of ice this year. I have a 300 gallon, with compacts and three pumps. Dolphin 4200, and two velicity t4s. I live in Oregon so the temp never really gets high but I had a couple weeks last year when the temp got up around 85 for a short time untill I added ice, or cranked up the AC. Any ideas? The t4 that runs my skimmer has about 400 gph diverted back into the sump so I was thinking about using that to run through the chiller, unless the chiller has a built in pump. And as all tankers know, price is important. Thanks in advance.

I hear JBJ chillers are reasonably priced and are some of thr quitest on the market. You have a fairly large tank so you might need something a bit more powerful. I believe they have a commercial version which is rated for extremly large tanks. Something to look into.

You live in Oregon and so does PCI, (Pacific Coast Imports, http://www.pacificcoastimports.com/ ). We ran a 1/2hp on our 240g w/100g sump, with no issues at all. The sump room would get pretty warm on summer afternoons in Indiana and that chiller kicked butt!!

I also have read that some of the big tank guys use Teclima Chillers. I don't know who manufactures or sells them, but a search heere on RC would do the trick.

Do you "got one on" or "go to neon"?!?

Wow those PCI chillers look sweet. I use an aqua logic drop in 1/3 horse on a 300g. It cycles a little more than I would like in the hot part of the summer, but has lasted a long time and regulates the temp nicely. The exhaust is expelled throught the wall to the outside to avoid the chiller heating the room (and therefor the tank. it's a little loud.

Also I am in the San Francisco Bay Area so our avg temp is probably pretty similar.

I have the PCI CL 650 on my 300 gal. I have the dart pump for my closed loop. So I put a tee on the closed loops input side from the pump to the output on the chiller and the output to a T on the loop to the input on the chiller, Sound right? Works great so far but it has'nt got that hot here YET.

I run a 1/2 HP Aqualogic drop in on my 260 (about 350 total gallons) and does a nice job keeping the temp between 77-79 degrees.

Artica chillers work great also. Very quiet operation. I am really happy with mine.

How does everyone feel about having the drop-in typ in a refungium? Will it drop the temp to much directly around the unit?
