OK.. I know I was stupid for getting one in the first place, but how do you clean the "U" section on CPR overflows?

Sound like a job for a bottle brush to me.

First, you are not stupid. I have one and it has been basically trouble free for over two years. I take a strip of towel about 4-6 inches wide by the length of the towel and tie a strong peice of string to each end. I then feed one off the strings through the overflow by attaching a fishing weight. I then have one end of the towel coming out of the inlet side and the other end out the outlet side. This is slide back and forth through the U shaped section removing any build up.

If there is a music store near you, you can buy cleaners for instruments similar to mckeec's homemade cleaner. It's just a cord with a cloth on one end, and a weight on the other.
