well my RBTA has decided to spit.. im watching it right now.. it kinda went into the shade to do so. I thought I saw something that said one of them or both? might hide, do I need to coax it out to the light to survive or will it do so on its own (if they do hide?

thanks

How do you know when this is happening? Mine keeps having like this "lobe" that looks like a separate anemone hanging off the side, but then it shrinks back up at night and doesn't look that way anymore.

It'll do fine. Why would it want to be in the dark if it would die? That's like saying "I'm going to go into that burning building even though I know I'm going to die" Heck no! I'd come back out.

IOW, they'll be fine.

You'll see it in the mouth. It'll still be one anemone with 2 mouths then they'll just pull apart.

ah...on mine this "lobe" action is out on the edge and doesn't involve the mouth area at all, so just must be stretching its wings or something occasionally.

its possible I caused this to happen as my skimmer cup got so full that it caused the water to total rise into the cup then overflowing it so that all the nasty crap was put back into the tank!! only thing left was the gunk that all builds up on the cup. I did a 30 water change and all fish and corals survived with no signs of distress at all. Well except maybe the anemone? I'm going to do another water change in a day or so.

why would anything stress if the cup is emptied back into the tank!?

that is where it came from in the first place. it is not like you are adding foreign waste to the tank. it would nbot have been taken out if you didnt have a skimmer

Water changes will sometimes cause them to split so that was probably what signaled it.

there were probally two weeks or more worth of skimate in the cup and it was put back into the tank within a few minutes.

Just got home and with the moonlights on I can see both of them. Pretty cool I must say.

Now if only those two would divide and then those four divide.. etc.. :)

Yes, it would be a shock to take a nasty cup of skimate and dump it into your tank. That is where it came from, but it didn't collect there all at the same time.

trottman: feel free to do some testing and let us know what the results are.
