as suggested I tested the water with a chem test kit for 5 diff tests. Here are my results (nitrite=0), (Nitrate=0), Nh3/Nh4=.25-.5), Ph @ 8.4-8.6

I also took pictures and have them in my photobucket album as suggested.http://photobucket.com/albums/j307/shane_ers/

I don't know what a few of these are and have looked at millions of pics...anybody know?

would like to chat with someone and figure some of this out

OK. Looks like your tank is still cycling. You need to wait for that ammonia to go down and your nitrites and nitrates to go up. Then you can do a water change or two and test it again. Some recommend that you test everyday, but if you don't have anything in it but LR, then I'd leave off to every other day or so.

just so you know, that link is to your sign in page. You need to copy and paste the URL of the actual picture into the message box.

I have lots of little critters and a couple fish..To backtrack I have this tank because someone abandoned it. I moved it 3 days ago and it was in terrible shape. Cleaned a bunch of stuff out in the tank (glass) and now am wondering if I should clean SOME of the filter and bio balls out.

Gosh, this was just abandoned? I don't know much about the corals but the top image is mushrooms. The yellow fish is a yellow tang.

I feel like i'm over my head here..The owner left town (and his soon to be ex) need I say more? Now I'm saving these guys and am flying by the seat of my pants. Some great suggestions so far thanx... The water balance is my main concern and I'm reading everything I can get my eyes on...any more suggestions?

I am a BIG fan of the TalkingReef podcasts. You can find them at www.TalkingReef.com and in the iTunes music store. If you don't have an iPod you can download them to your computer and listen there or burn them to CDs. The podcasts and iTunes are free. The early episodes are on basic topics.

Have you done a water change? Do you know the specific gravity? If the tank has been neglected water probably has evaporated leaving the SG too high. BTW, you should not use tap water in your aquarium, use RO or RO/DI water instead.
