how do you get rid of it. any information will be beneficial. thnax john
You get a cleaning crew: hermits, snails of every description, and a conch. And with a toothbrush, just wrap and tug until you've gotten the length way down. The algae-eaters generally only get the short stuff, and if they do clip it at root level (like conchs) the long strands will float into your overflow and just cause all kinds of trouble as water backs up in your main tank, etc. This is not the fun stage of reefing. It gets better, I promise.

Or you can read these articles that will help, turn your lights to a shorter duration, reduce nutrients, imporve skimmer, also increase flow as well seems to help.
Keeping your parameters correct. Calcium and alkalinity and ph.

I bought an algae blenny for $15 at my LFS.. cleaned all the hair algae up. However, that's just a temporary soultion, you need to find the source of it.
