hello. i was wondering if 4 bulbs of vho over a 30 gallon (36"x12"17") was too much for mushrooms at that depth. i originally wanted to get a t5 setup but ive read that its too much light for mushrooms at such a shallow depth.

should i go with the 4 bulb vho or 2 bulb? thanks

If all you are wanting is mushrooms, and soft corals then the 2 bulb would be just fine. When I had a 30L, I had 4 bulbs and mushrooms never did well in my tank, but that could have also been because I would use high flow rates. That along with the 4 bulbs maybe why I never had luck with them.

So, if that's all you want, save your money and get just 2 bulbs.

thanks for the reply
id like to keep moderate to low light coral in the tank. i thought maybe 2 vho bulbs might not be enough for some lps and zoos.

edit:are pc and vho similar as far as par and depth penetration?
