Would really like some input on the DE vs SE MH bulbs. Pros/Cons... Any input would be appreciated!

Double Ended Metal Halides: Pros - More intense, run rather cool, comes in a variety of Kelvin Ratings, and comes in a variety of sizes. Cons - Must have a UV Shield in order to protect your livestock and your eyes.

Single Ended Metal Halides: Pros - Easy to come by, glass has built in UV shield. Cons - Runs pretty hot, not as intense.

Is it true as I have been lead to believe that DE penetrates deeper than SE?

For example... I was recently told that a 150W DE MH will handle up to 24" whereas the 150W SE MH will handle up to 18" depths. True or untrue?

Do most fixtures come with the UV shield if they are setup for DE?

Depends on your set up.

Can you further elaborate on "Depends on your setup"? I assume that you are referencing ballast/reflector/bulb and etc.
